The Atlanteans were into exploring the mind-matter-space-time connection and their equipment got awry and overloaded and destroyed their civilization, but though they are gone their equipment is still running to an extent. This is how feats like regeneration and teleportation are possible.

Ah but Atlantis is supposed to be in the Atlantic ocean you say? Some people actually believe it was round about Indonesia. There are all sorts of locations proposed for it, not all of them in the Atlantic.

Then there are also people who believe in Mu and Lemuria which were in the Indian/Pacific Oceans.
