The Trailer (shown during The Dark Knight)This makes me wonder if they'll imitate the Watchmen "Cast" poster below as a movie poster, which was probably the inspiration for EW's arrangement above. I'm iffy. It looks okay, but Zack claims that the climax of the story has been altered significantly, and he's added a "alternative fuel subplot." I fear that directing Sin City and 300 have slowly eaten away at his brain.

I watched the trailer last week, and frankly, it looked pretty good to me. I'm exited about it.
I already figured there'd be changes to the story though ... you'd almost have to ... I mean, can the Pirate story be done in concert with the story and not be confusing to the audience?
As for the ending ... I'm also glad that's being tweaked as well. I thought it was anticlimactic when I read it years ago. (No offense to Mister Moore ... but it didn't reach me.)
Also, Sin City and 300 were both pretty accurate adaptations of the source material by Frank Miller ... so I'm not sure what anyone's problems would be with either of those.

I mean, can the Pirate story be done in concert with the story and not be confusing to the audience? The Black Freighter is actually going to be released on DVD. It's being done as an anime, voiced by Gerard Butler, and given a project budget of $150 million alone. The third DVD set is actually going to offer an option to watch the anime and movie integrated as was done in the comic. Read it again. Frankly, I can't see a "better" ending without fucking up the entire story. The "alternative fuel" garbage is bad enough, and giving Nite Owl Batman's costume is tacky, but for the love of the Christ, don't change the story!Miller is a fucking awful writer, which is why I'm concerned about Zack tackling source material that is far beyond what's he's done in the past. At least Moore's right-wing material made sense, even though he didn't agree with it (that, and he was deliberately channeling Ditko for those segments.) Basically, it's like getting a large hammer to pound in a tin nail, when you're used to pounding in iron steaks. It requires a more careful approach, which I'm not seeing or hearing too much of in most aspects of the film. Mimicry is one thing. Translation is another. Let's just hope this brings in new readers (though they may just consider the film awful enough not to buy the book!) I may be a little concerned, but Watchmen is like my bible. I would like to see a film that I can be proud to be connected to.

Just because the ending didn't reach me was not to say I didn't understand it. Ozymandias's scheme was straight out of a nightmarish NWO conspiracy theory that'd send Alex Jones packing ... even in the eighties. What left me cold was the acceptance that such a wrong was for the best. (insert a 'needs of the many outweigh' track here ...)
Glad to hear they are including the The Black Freighter pirate story ... it's really a cool analogy.
As for Miller ... I'm not a fan of his more recent works, (AllStar Batman comes to mind ...) but Daredevil, Elektra, DKR, Sin City and even 300 were pretty well done, IMHO. But then, I'm a weird kind of comic connoisseur.
While I agree that Watchman is certain something special, I'm just pleased it's being done at all ... I mean, we have two versions of Dune, neither exactly right ... but both are enjoyable in and of themselves; and certainly better than no Dune movie at all.

At that point, had Rorschach not delivered his Journal to the New Frontiersman, there would be eternal peace... ...but that wouldn't have been realistic, plot wise or character wise. Besides, Dr. Manhattan warned Ozymandias; "Nothing ever ends." It's annoying that we'll have to wait for the super-duper-deluxe edition though. That's at least three or four years away. I guess so. Still, I'm wary.
