Greetings my fellow beings, Those of you who have known me over the years may have figured out that I like to do obscure ships. My favorite era is the 1970's and early 80's, hence my interest in the Mastercom/SPO materials. You also know that I've modeled a lot of the famous and not-so-famous movie ships from that era. But there's one bastard that eludes me to this day, and I have decided I should model it before I go batty...and that is the Searcher from Buck Rogers. I've modeled the Starfighter but dammit I need a mothership for it. Badly. You can help me...guide me to any and all pics of this ship. I've already come across this site: www.universalhartland.com/code/buck110l.shtml...but I need better pics. They must exist somewhere. DVD scans would be cool. Pics of the actual model in the studio would be nice too. This search may tax your resources and knowledge. But for the sake of my mental well-being I urge you to engage in it. Your chance to return the favor to me for my stuff over the years! This ship needs to be documented in 3D. It's not the prettiest nor the most famous ship, but dammit it is a part of 1970's-80's sci-fi and I will model it! Join in the search for the Searcher!

Finding decent reference material for the Buck Rogers ships is pretty difficult. Most of the sites that still exist just recycle the same images and the one you've highlighted is probably the best I've ever found. Having said, that I've been hunting more for for Ardala's battlecruiser than the Searcher... and I'd also like to find decent reference stuff for the Corsair from Battle Beyond the Starsm but that's another story.

The Draconia would be another cool one to do, I remember seeing it for real at Expo 86 all those years ago...

I want to launch Twiki (complete with Dr. Theopholus) as a fighter, with a "Beedee beedee beedee" sound effect... ;D

The Hawk fighter as well as the Starfighter need a mother ship, so unless someone gets me DVD caps of the Searcher there's less motivation to do any more Buck ships.
Come on, there must be somebody who can get it done!

Thank you! Though I see many helpful refs for the Draconia and some of the fighters, the necessary Searcher refs are still lacking.

Right, I'll see what I can do. Fairly certain I have a few episodes lying around on discs here, if any of them have good views of the Searcher I'll screen-grab and upload to Imageshack.
If you happen to know of an episode that has some good views of the Searcher then let me know. Will save me some watching! That said, it's been a while since I watched any BR, might be enjoyable ;D

Atra -
Just watched through "The Dorian Secret", but there are very few good shots of the Searcher there. Most of the times that we see the ship, it's either too far away or too close up and is covered in the coloured light from the Dorian weapon. My recording of it just doesn't have the definition to see much. Will have a poke through some more eps, should have the early season 2 ones here somewhere and I guess they'll provide the best shots given that the Searcher was new to audiences at that point.

Eh, I try I knew somebody here must have some episodes. ;D Annoyingly enough, I have the first season in it's entireity but the Searcher didn't come along until the revamp for the second season AFAIK. I do have a few episodes from season 2 though, and will have a rummage through them once I find the damn disc in my sorting system (read: pile). In the meantime, here are the best shots I could haul out of the opening to "The Dorian Secret" (which is a great episode BTW). Recorded with FRAPS, uploaded to ImageShack. 1: 2: 3: 4: 5: That is about as good as it gets for shots of the Searcher in that episode I'm afraid. Ever-so-slightly predates High-Definition! I'll let you know if/when I find better shots in another episode. Two things, only slightly off-topic. Firstly - Erin Gray is just as pretty as I remember her being when I last watched a Buck Rogers episode. Secondly - she auditioned for the role of Kathryn Janeway! Made it through to the final five. I'd have loved to see her in that show - probably wouldn't have saved it from the utter mess it was at times, but it would have been cool to have Col. Wilma Deering commanding a Federation starship ;D

You da man James! ;D
These shots reveal quite a bit. What I would enjoy having is any ref of the top of the ship, but as far as I can recall they seem to have only shot the bottom angles of the ship in the series and used those same shots over and over again like in Battlestar.
We're on our way to making the Searcher!

We're on our way to making the Searcher! Indeed. Generally, you see the top of the ship when it's about to go to whatever form of hyperlight travel the BR universe uses (believe it's called 'plasma drive'). A typical shot looks like this: As you can see - it's a bit far away and really at the wrong angle to make out details. That's from the first ep of season 2 by the way. ***edit*** Interesting note: the latin phrase painted on the ship - per ardua ad astra - translates as 'through struggles (or difficulties) to the stars'. It also happens to be the motto of the RAF and other Commonwealth airforces including the RAAF and RNZAF.
