Just to show you all where I'm going with it. The reason it has no main phaser bank(!) is because there's a big special sensor there. The sec hull is wider to accomodate the fighters, as opposed to longer as it is on the Yamato. The sensor detail is not complete yet...I plan to add a series of rings similar to the arrangement we see on TNG ships. The class is tentatively dubbed the "Sol"-class, NCC-1733. Any suggestions are welcome. This class was not a rushed design like the Yamato, so there's more room for "surveyor" innovation, providing it still resembles a Connie. The deflector dish will probably get a special glowie treatment.

Yeah! That's what I am talkin' about!!
The larger primary hull provides more space for the extra science types and planetary survey teams.
I like the direction! Definately a step out from the same-old-same old.

LOL It's still pretty much a standard heavy cruiser, but slightly heavier. More innovations may include a starlight roof observatory and a ten-forward lounge.

Well. . .of COURSE it is a has standard heavy cruiser look. Because it has the same basic layout and the SAME engines.
But it will trade power/space intensive** weapons for additional supplies and crew space. With the altered mission. . .of course the saucer and secondary hull will change, as you have shown. I like the idea of providing a 10-forward space. That accounts for the extra deck on the bridge structure. Crew quarters account for the extra ring on the bottom.
If anything, I would expect the secondary hull to be bigger to account for the spacious shuttle bay, and the required supplies.
**from the deck plans I have seen.. .Star Fleet weapons are surprisingly compact and space efficient. I personally don't believe it. Warships in the age of steam (and later) are built AROUND the weapons and engines. Not around the medical bay and crew quarters.

You're forgetting that a major part of phaser weapons system on a ship is the power net which is miles of tubing that circles around inside the hull, which holds the EPS from the main energizers until it's ready to be used by the phaser emitter.

But that important stuff doesn't appear on the deck plans. . . .but I agree that this is a HUGE componenent of the phaser system. I suspect this is also a HUGE component of the Photon Torpedo system.
In fact. . .I would suspect that the photon torpedo system would logically have to be located close to the Stardrive (where-ever that is located!!!)

ok. . .ok. . .that's enough guys. EVERYBODY is making HUGE requests of our gracious model makers. I think Sir Mudd and Atra now have HUGE workloads. And we appreciate every bit of it. My top wish ships: 1) Lord Schtupp's Antares 2) Lord Schtupp's Kitty Hawk 3) The Galactic Survey Cruiser I don't have any specific request for Sir Mudd. . .honestly after the Larson and Locknar; I just don't want to be greedy (But I have been having dreams of his new D7; which will make my new D8 )
