Any "Firefly" fans in the hizzouse? I wasn't one, but I enjoyed "Serenity" anyway. Whedon did a great job of making the film stand on its own, though I imagine fans are finding lots of little in-jokes just the way I did in the X-Men movies... Speaking of in-jokes, there's a great "Forbidden Planet" one in the film... Oh, and long-time Trek modeller Greg Jein did some work on the film, which surprised me... didn't know they were using physical models anymore in these days of CG...

The "Forbidden Planet" reference was more than a joke. In that movie, the heroes battled "Monsters from the Id". Which is a pretty good description of that unfortunate one percent in the "Serenity" movie...
The movie was stunning, and was worthy of the late lamented TV series. My wife loved both and she hates science fiction.
Anybody who hasn't seen the "Firefly" TV series really should go rent the DVD collection and check it out.
