Right, the finale aired. And.....pretty good. In fact, utterly brilliant for the most part. Some stuff still fell a bit short, but I'll let it slide.
Specific stuff:
1) That can't be the last we'll see of Martha. I haven't heard any noises about her leaving, so she must return for the Xmas episode.
2) That can't be the last we'll see of the Master either. They just left a thread there near the end. He'll be back.
3) Speaking of his 'death' - what a perfect way for him to finally beat the Doctor! The Master has tried all manner of things to kill/destroy/obliterate the Doctor over the years, and he finally wins by dying and leaving him alone again. The Doctor had found out that he wasn't the last of his people, and the Master has (as far as he knows) taken that from him.
4) The effects were top notch - though I can't think what the Gollum-esque creature that the Doctor became was meant to be. The Master said something about suspending his ability to regenerate before aging him again - do all Timelords who age that far before regenerating end up like that? Or was some other mechanism at work? I did love the 'de-aging' effect as the Doctor rejuvenated himself though.
5) Having said that....it was a bit deus ex machina. Just seemed a bit too easy for the Doctor to win in the end. Alright, it took a year of planning to achieve it, but still....
6) The ending. Right, where to start? The humour in the Doctor echoing the last finale was good (What?!! What?!! What?!!), though it looks like the TARDIS took an almighty knock. Quite how he's going to repair that I don't know....I'd guess that the TARDIS will have the same abilities it's had in the books and be able to self-repair. This is probably the most damage we've seen it take on-screen. Odd that it's the Titanic. The Doctor has been onboard that ship already - so has he just crossed his own time stream? Not supposed to do that usually.
7) One final thought - Jack, the Face of Boe??? I did not see that one coming at all. Looks like he's gone back to Torchwood at any rate, and he's not about to die any time soon. I still reckon that's a bit Captain Scarlet. And that wasn't the only parallel - the flying aircraft carrier that they were on did seem very reminiscent of Spectrum's base ;D
