These are the Voyages of the Saladin-class Destroyer, USS Tamerlane, and her crew. Commanded by the Dynamic, Daring, and Determined Lt.Cdr. Corbin Kleiner, the USS Tamerlane fights to protect the Federation as a model starfleet captain in the shadow of James Tiberious Kirk.
The Following Logs piece together the many chronicles of the USS Tamerlane. Today we start with the Captain's first 2 logs.
Captain's StarLog: Stardate 3164.88
The is the First log of Lt.Cmdr. Corbin Kleiner, Captain of the Saladin-class Destroyer USS Tamerlane, NCC-510. I have officially assumed command of the USS Tamerlane as of the moment of this log. We are preparing to leave spacedock following the repairs of heavy battle damage suffered by the Tamerlane at the hands of Klingon frigates in a border skirmish 2 weeks ago. Following my temporary act of assuming command of the Archon-class Cruiser USS Shran during an emergency cituation that incapacitated and killed the Captain of the vessel, Cdr. Jacob Torres. I am obviously saddened by his loss, but I performed well, and was rewarded with a promotion to Lt.Cdr. and my first real command. Well, Ending the log. As a rule, however, I will list the Earth callender date in the log as well, for personal reference. July 01 2266.
Captain's Personal Log: Stardate 3168.6
Wow...my first day in my first real command. And to think I actually hoped to be given command of that doddering old USS Shran. A great ship, but a Saladin-class Destroyer? Remarkable! The USS Tamerlane is a tough little ship. Cap'n Torres, if only you could see me now. As for the ship's crew, my XO, Lt. Jar Koran, an andorian, is a capable officer, and probably expected to become the ship's CO following his own captain's medical retirement. Heh, there was probably a big chance I could have become HIS XO instead of the other way around. I guess the brass thought my performance in command of a vessel was better. He doesn't seem to hold any ill will either. Next on the list is my Command Master Chief, MCPO Horgan Tor. From what I could tell from the crew, he was a man that they would proudly have called their father, even if he was a tellarite! A man of great honor and integrity, and likely a close friend of Lt.Cdr. Ulric, the Tamerlane's previous captain. He seems very wary of me. Lt.(JG) Sasha Romanovsky, a skiddish and nervous, yet expertly skilled, chief engineer. While he was fully capable of repairing a small disrepency we suffered in the matter/anti-matter reaction, he panicked for a short time and constantly second guessed himself, all the while I was in engineering shouting in broken english at his subordinates, his voice filled with fear. At the last moment before he quite easily stablised the reaction, he had reverted completely to his native language of russian. I'm both proud and annoyed with him. I hope that perhaps he may learn something some time soon. Then there's my Helmsman. Ensign Walters is an unusual woman. While on duty, she's cold, meticulous, and efficient, but after having had the pleasure of talking with her during off duty hours, I found her to be friendly, sociable, and quite frankly, an Airhead. I had half a mind to submit her to a starbase psychiatrist to treat her for Multiple Personalities. The CMO of this vessel is a one Lt. Eli Foley. Lt. Foley is very sensible, gentle, and has a very, very, very, calm and collected feel. Also he seems to have a very high tollerance for hypochondria, as I saw whilst making my rounds of the ship. Lt. Romanovsky had a visit. I'm not going to say anymore. The theres the science officer. As the only other Andorian on the vessel, Ens. Yrik Torvan seems to be very close to Lt. Koran. They seem to confide in each other quite often. Other than that, At least Lt. Koran socializes with the rest of the crew. Ens. Torvan is reported to keep to himself most, if not all, of the time. The last member of the senior staff that I feel the need to mention is Lt.(JG) Alex Torres, Nephew of my late former captain. I find it difficult to talk to him, even though Lt. Torres feels no ill will torward me. For a young man of 25, he's amazingly mature. Probably why he rose to Junior Grade Lieutenant so quickly, as reported by his personell records. He seems to have most of Starfleet's starcharts memorized, but seems to be incredibly absent minded otherwise, mainly while off duty. I'm not sure wether or not to think of my new crew as slightly flawed, or decently competant. Eh, same difference. July 01 2266.
