Hey, Schtupp, would this do as an update or release thread for your finished ships? I'm curious to see that Pyotr Velikly...

Yup MC - I think from now on I will only consider doing a WIP thread only when the mesh is done and base hull textures applied, so the project isnt likely to grow cold. And it will only be on this forum. Atra asked to see this one glorify the forum so here is the one I finished two weeks ago. One of the many AMT Connie kits I built was finished as the Monitor NCC-1713 as per FJ Tech manual. USS Monitor FCC+ Command Cruiser Refit Launch Date: 2275

Yum. So you actually built this as a real life model? Got any pics?

What can I say about this except that it relly gives me a woody. You've taken the design a step further in a very creative way. Little details here and there that required contemplation and an understanding of theory behind how and why things on Fed ships work. The outboard flux chillers having vanes...brilliant, because the TMP ship has very thin vanes there. The rhomboids at the sides of the nacelles being that "engineering green" color...nice touch. Flush vents at the aft....also nice. And my favorite detail...the orange detail at the sides of the intake parts. My questions: Those blue lights around the perimeter of the deflector housing are meant to be RCS thrusters, right? What do the neck launchers fire, torps or drones?

SWEET!!
I just wish I had Atra's Endeavour to go with it. I lost it long ago.

MC - no pics, I wish I had. it was the straight AMT kit with the conventional warps, but I added phasers (sanded plastic sewing pin heads) aftermarket decals and did a killer airbrush weather job on it. I gave the model to a friend that has moved and I lost contact with since. It could still be around.

Note the Atra like pattern on the suacer like your frederick the great? Finally got to use that. Funny thing was that I had never really liked this design until I realized that really is a good transition from TOS to TMP. What threw me was on the plans the chiller/warpcoil assy was facing outboard instead of in and no idea of what the other side was like, so the inside half is TOS while outside i came up with the TMP type warp grille so thats the TMP half. I shaped the grille like something that might be found in Scottys engineering bay. Phase Ib is what I call late TOS. The specs fall between Atras TMP connie specs (X-Ship) and normal FCA. Its a good ship. Very lite weathering. I could have spent more time on this model, I wanted to rebuild the bridge B/C decks structure, and the glow sensor dish (my first) could be a lot better. too blah. And I forgot to texture in my drone launch hatches.

My questions: Those blue lights around the perimeter of the deflector housing are meant to be RCS thrusters, right? What do the neck launchers fire, torps or drones? El Torpos, which is a spicy torpedo. The blu lites are RC thrusters, per TMP connie, but I didnt put RCs anywere else but I should have. The saucer is too TOS which I wanted to solve by building a better bridge but didnt get to it. Sombody was gonna bash it with a Wicked Zombie brand TMP bridge and retex it, which I thought would look good.

I've heard about people using pinheads, but what I always did was to use some relatively thickly-brewed 5-min epoxy applied to the hull with a toothpick, to create a little dot that became my phaser turret.

You know, I suggest you leave the Monitor as it is, and if you change the bridge and those other details you mentioned, you can always name it another ship of the class (I believe there are 16 of them or more). The Endeavor class in my shiplist is CH4, but of course I can always have as many variants of a class that I like by adding a letter, like CH4A, etc. I can even use a lower case letter, CH4a. Or even CH4+, but I don't like using the plus sign because you can only use it once. I like the blue glowie RC's, and the front of the secondary hull is probably the most important position for them. But you know what this entails? It suggests that there are 2 different RC control systems in use on this ship. The TOS ship, according to SotSF, uses a chemical combustion reaction control system, but the TMP ships use a particle-beam based system which is why the RC thrusters are always glowing slightly. Perhaps this technology was first used on this ship?

By the way, I like your choice of hull color. The original studio model was a kind of greenish stone-grey, but on TV the ship does at times look like it has a violet hue, which is an aspect that should be expressed in SFC model art. I like variety in my Fed hull colors, because they do vary light grey to green to blue.
The original 3-foot prototype model for the show (the unlit one) was a wool-light-grey.
But the 11-foot lit model was a greenish stone-grey.
But it looked like anything from battleship grey to blue to violet on TV, depending on the episode and shot and maybe even one's TV!

Painted a little hull color around the base of the pinhead to make it look a little smaller and flush. drilled a little #30 hole very shallow-like. Hand painted th details. Came out great. about 20 years ago.... damn now Im hot for plastic again - so any killer scale enterprise kits out there? I want big w lites! I saw some cool resin detail parts now available for the AMT kit..

The TMP Enterprise's warp engine power (as well as shields, I think) are mentioned in Gene's novelization of ST:TMP to be 33% more powerful than before, which means a #1 shield value of 40 for that ship. If the Monitor is supposed to be earlier in the timeline, it should probably have a lesser shield value, say 20% more than the original? Just my 2 cents.
