The secondary hull, hmm, I just don't like the "flatbed" look, very un-nerving when you consider the extreme curviness of the rest of the hull. Would it be possible to give the center of the roof a little more "rise?" The impulse engine will be built up a little, should work visually the same as your suggestion - good observation too

I now think of this ship as a Follow-on type to the Destroyat. 2 Torps and 6 P1 sound about right for weaplns. Just make sure that the primary hull is a smaller than a Connie PS: Gah, we SO need more than 1 photon type and more than two phaser types!

I think that more doubts will be won over once textures are applied, lending a more scale appearence with windows and markings.
the saucer is 110 meters while the main deck section is 4 m high

Sweet model looking forward to seeing the final results.
interesting point to note on the excelsior issue Fasa Specs have the primary hull dia at 186 meters while Jackill has his at around 177 meteres. I agree that Excelsior with the revised bridge should be a larger ship I believe that the first bridge was a very large. I'd have to look at Trek 3 again.

The first Excelsior model was sort of low on detail...and what's with that big blister-like bridge? It's totally undetailed...it's just a billowy glob on top of the saucer.

thanks mariner. you know if we postulated that the port holes on the Excelsior's saucer leading edge were the same scale as the enterprise's saucer leading edge than we'd be able to calculate a very close appoximation of the models true size.

Well I have started some modifications based on further Warp tunnel flow testing, revised stuctural load studies, and the great comments made here about my NCL.
Unfortunately I had lost about 3 hours work to the hull last night due to -I think- applying a mesh modifier to a grouped set of objects (Max5.1), saving the file (everything looks great), then reopen file(corrupted mesh). Its happened to me before, the verticies are in the right place but the faces are connecting the verticies differently, hull now looks like a porcupine.
Anyway I will post a pic asap i get it fixed (sigh - really heavy sigh)

That's why I avoid major meshing using Max at all. Max is good for making adjustments and reducing poly count, but I still use Lightwave to make the primary mesh. It's much more intuitive in my opinion, and since we're only doing ship models it more than gets the job done.

Its the only real problem Ive had with max5, Ive tried lightwave but it was a few years ago. Interface was too intuitive.

But how do you port models for SFC with Max 5? Isn't the plug-in only for 3.1?

Plugin works on Max 5.1 for me...thats what i use for my primitive 'bashing and making LODs/brk mods etc, it wont work in any higher versions yet though

I think it was 4 or 5 that I tried out so maybe Ill give lightwave another go, I can get an edu version thru my sister for 250. Wolf- nice avatar. Where is Atrahasis' killer avatar? ;D
